Kindle Author Interview: Mel Comley

Mel Comley, author of Final Justice, discusses her book, her journey as a writer, and self-publishing on Kindle.

DAVID WISEHART: What can you tell us about Final Justice?

MEL COMLEY: Final Justice is the sequel to the successful book Impeding Justice that has now sold over 1500 copies.

DAVID WISEHART: How do you develop and differentiate your characters?

MEL COMLEY: That's the fun part, I tend to carry out an awful lot of people watching. The nasty characters are a mixture of exs. ;-)

DAVID WISEHART: Who do you imagine is your ideal reader?

MEL COMLEY: Anyone who reads James Patterson books.

DAVID WISEHART: What was your journey as a writer?

MEL COMLEY: I worked hard as a store manager 70-80 hours a week and decided enough was enough, we moved to France about 9 years ago and after renovating a huge farmhouse started writing. I haven't looked back since.

DAVID WISEHART: What is your writing process?

MEL COMLEY: I plan everything out first and carry out the necessary research needed for the book. Then get down to the nitty gritty.

DAVID WISEHART: What authors most inspire you?

MEL COMLEY: Initially James Patterson inspired me, now it has to be Karen Rose, an amazing author.

DAVID WISEHART: What one book, written by someone else, do you wish you'd written yourself?

MEL COMLEY: That's easy any Karen Rose book, it's very hard to pick one that stands out as they're all excellent.

DAVID WISEHART: How have you marketed and promoted your work?

MEL COMLEY: I talk about both books on the forums and twitter, I have a huge following! lol

DAVID WISEHART: Why publish on Kindle?

MEL COMLEY: Because of the immediacy really. If you send out to trad publishers there is usually a 18 month wait before your book is out there. To me that's totally unacceptable.

DAVID WISEHART: What advice would you give to a first-time author thinking of self-publishing on Kindle?

MEL COMLEY: Make sure you have a great product, otherwise your reviews will be bad, which in turn will knock your sales.

DAVID WISEHART: Thanks, and best of luck with your books.

Mel Comley writes, "I moved to France 9 years ago and started writing romance novels, but soon realised the adrenaline buzz you get from writing thrillers simply couldn't be ignored. I have a prequel to Impeding Justice coming out in the next couple of months. Then I intend revisiting the three romances I have written adding a different twist to them."
